About the lab
F&F Labz stands for Form & Function Labz: the idea that a tool, a cabinet or a circuit should be as good to look at as it is to use.
A Dutch furniture maker’s shop, in a garage
The lab is one bay of a garage in Southern California, being turned into a little piece of Amsterdam: antiqued white walls, light woods stained Delft blue, and clean Euro-style Baltic birch cabinets with their ply edges left showing.
Dutch casework and Indonesian carving sit side by side — two traditions, separate but together, on the same tool wall.
Form and function, in the same room
Hand-tool joinery on one bench, soldering irons and 3D printers on the next, and a tiny drone that flies the tours. Each discipline has its own channel — Mortise & Motor, Nerdsquatch and Crash Test Whoop — and they all meet here.
Everything built in the lab is filmed, measured and written down, so it can become a set of plans, a catalog piece or a commission.
Built to be used
Every work surface is 32″ high. Every drawer gets a dust lid. Every tool gets a fitted home. The lab is the first customer for everything in the catalog.
